Ah.. screw the questions.. I'll just ramble and hopefully explain it all.

I started this list one night in 1992 for reasons forgotten.. it was probably a half-drunking mental tangent that seemed worth documenting. I came up with 20 or so band names that night, then took the list along to a pontoon boat party the next day. In the process of getting drunk and wet and sunburned, the revellers came up with another 30 or so names. After drying it off, I started feeling proud of the little list. I kept adding, and adding, and adding.. I weasled parts of it into a handful of zines and publications in the early 90's.

Then came the fateful year 1996. After stumbling online, I was hooked, and quickly put up the first version of Heathen World. By the end of 96, this list was already popular to variety of trivia hounds out there. At the time there were about 300 band names, and it has grown ever since. There was no other list like this online for many years.. now there are similar lists in a variety of languages. Many of them pulled a bunch of content from this site.

This list has led to some fun correspondences, meeting some bands, etc. At least half of the online feedback points out mistakes, or brings up a competing rumors. A hefty percentage are also suggestions, which is how this list has grown to almost 1000 entries(!)
